The history Of Black History Month : “Negro History Week” was created in 1926 by Carter G. Woodson , an African American historian, scholar, educator and publisher. Wilson, also known as the “Father of Black History” was born on December 19, 1875. He was the second African American to receive a PhD from Harvard University. “Negro History Week” was later changed to “Black History Month” becoming a month long celebration starting in 1976. February was chosen as the month to celebrate because of Fredrick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln’s birthday, both of whom contributed to African American history. #blackhistorymonth#blackpower
