Coronavirus Affect on Minority Communities

A disproportionate number of illnesses and death from the Coronavirus continues to increase among racial and ethnic minority groups. In New York City the Covoid-19 ethnic data concluded that death rates among Black/ African American people are 92.3 deaths per 100,000 population and Hispanic/Latino community 74.3 according to the cdc. Both minority groups are experiencing a substantially higher rate of cases than that of White or Asian people. These health differences could apply because of the economic and social conditions the minority groups face in their communities. Also due to the lack of resources in these areas that could potentially respond to outbreaks and diseases. Both racial and ethnic groups are underrepresented and have been undervalued for a long time up to this point. Governor Cuomo of New York has set up additional testing sites in African American and Latino communities in order to address these concerns.
